The Training Request Form is used to request training for all UIC courses offered. Please complete the form, have your advisor or supervisor approve the training and submit the form to the appropriate UIC Staff member. If you have any questions, please stop by or call the UIC at 603-862-2790.

XPS Training

Description of the course/training content:??Initial training for the basic use and operation of the XPS.?
Duration:?2 two-hour sessions
Objective of the course/training:?To familiarize a student, staff, or faculty with the XPS use, controls, and parameters for basic operation and use.
How often is the course held:?As needed. Typical training is one-on-one or groups of two.
Prerequisites:?Lab safety and X-Ray training from UNH EH&S.
Equipment/Software:?Kratos Supra XPS running ESCApe software.

SEM Basic Training for Materials Science (EBSD and EDS)

Description of the course/training content: Training provides a working knowledge of SEM and EDS x-ray microanalysis. Learn how to get the best resolution photo by varying accelerating voltages, how to deal with difficult samples (like beam sensitive materials), particles, rough surfaces, and layered materials.
Duration: 2 – 3 two-hour sessions
Objective of the course/training: Learn basic operation of the SEM controls so researcher can operate microscope safely and independently.
How often the course is held: Individual training sessions throughout the year

SEM Basic Training for Biological Samples

NMR Basic Training

Description of the course/training content:Training provides an introduction to the safe operation of the 400 MHz NMR spectrometer. Sample preparation, 1D proton and carbon data acquisition and processing will be covered as it applies to your research samples. An introduction to 2D NMR is included.
Duration:?~ 6 one-hour sessions
Objective of the course/training: Learn basic instrument operation to acquire NMR data safely and independently.
How often the course is held:?Fall semester and Summer session
Prerequisites: Lab safety and?Magnet Safety training from EH&S
Equipment/Software: Agilent/Varian Mercury 400 MHz NMR running vNMRj software, Mnova NMR processing software, and ACD NMR Prediction software

NMR Advanced Training

Description of the course/training content:?Training provides advanced NMR training including, for example: variable temperature, 2D NOESY, TOCSY, HSQC, HMBC (etc.) data acquisition and processing.
Duration:?Usually 1 -2 hours but variable, depending on content
Objective of the course/training: Learn advanced techniques to study more complex structural and dynamic properties of samples.
How often the course is held:?As needed.
Prerequisites: Lab safety and?Magnet Safety training from EH&S, NMR Basic Training from the UIC
Equipment/Software: Agilent/Varian Mercury 400 MHz NMR running vNMRj software, or Inova 500 MHz NMR running vNMRj software

Description of the course/training content:?Training provides an introduction to the safe operation of the Olympus IX81 Inverted Fluorescence/Brightfield microscope, the Zeiss Axioplan 2 Imaging Upright Fluorescence/Brightfield Microscope, Olympus SZX9 Stereomicroscope, the ThermoFisher Invitrogen Evos FL Auto 2 Cell Imaging System, and/or the Molecular Devices SpectraMax M2e Microplate Reader. Aspects of sample preparation, data acquisition and processing will be covered as it applies to your research samples.

Objective of the course/training:?Learn advanced methods for manual reconstruction and secondary image processing and segmentation.
How often is the course held:?As needed. Typical training is one-on-one or in groups of two.
Prerequisites:?Lab safety, X-Ray training from UNH EH&S, UIC’s Basic Micro Computed Tomography Training and demonstrated proficiency in basic use.
