Presenters and panelists from USNH will explore Generative AI and its implications for teaching and learning. How can the technology be leveraged to enhance our teaching practice and student learning? Break out "birds of a feather" discussion groups will explore more targeted challenges and solutions in advance of planned Generative AI workshops in the Fall.?All USNH faculty and staff are encouraged to?RSVP?and join the conversations.??Zoom link will be sent to all registrants the day before the event and is copied above.?

9:10am-10:15am? | Teaching and Thinking with A.I.????(José Antonio Bowen) The excitement (and panic) surrounding A.I. is shattering expectations around assignments, assessment, class preparation and attendance, while challenging us to build more future-proof and inclusive classrooms. AI is rapidly changing how humans work and think. AI is also changing how we think about average. If AI can produce consistent "C" work, then we need to update our policies and grading. AI is even changing creativity. Together, we will examine the skills and curriculum that will matter most in this new age, why articulation of ‘quality’ is essential and what policies and practices improve motivation and decrease cheating |

10:30am-11:00am?? | AI Unplugged: Navigating Ethics, Bias, and Environmental Impact? ? ?(Fran Keefe, Information Technologist &?Mike McIntire, Learning Architect, UNH Online and Continuing Education) While Generative AI can be a valuable tool, it comes with hidden costs. As with many new technologies, there are tangible impacts on the environment, intellectual property rights, and human jobs. And because AI is trained on the work of humans, it inherits the biases and untruths of humans. |
11:00am?11:40am | Introduction to The AI Challenge??? ?(Martha Burtis, Director, Open CoLab, Plymouth State University) Join us for an orientation to The AI Challenge, a self-paced, online module to build faculty capacity with generative artificial intelligence (GENAI). Developed by the Open Learning & Teaching Collaborative at Plymouth State, the module is organized around the lenses of teaching with, teaching against, and teaching about GENAI. Participants will be introduced to the main module topics and have a chance to sign up to participate this fall in a month-long, virtual cohort of faculty from across USNH, working through the module together.? |

2024 FITSI Keynote Speaker:??José Antonio Bowen,??Teaching and Thinking with A.I.

188体育app_188体育在线-平台官网 the Keynote Speaker:?José?Antonio?Bowen?has been leading innovation and change for over 40 years at Stanford, Georgetown and the University of Southampton (UK), as a dean at Miami University and SMU and as President of Goucher College. Bowen has worked as a?musician?with Stan Getz, Dave Brubeck, and many others and his symphony was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in Music (1985). Bowen holds four degrees from Stanford and has written over 100 scholarly articles and books, including the?Cambridge?Companion?to?Conducting?(2003),?Teaching Naked?(2012 and the winner of the Ness Award for Best Book on Higher Education),?Teaching?Naked?Techniques?with G. Edward Watson (2017) and?Teaching Change: How to Develop Independent Thinkers using Relationships, Resilience and Reflection?(Johns Hopkins University Press, 2021). Bowen has appeared in?The?New?York?Times,?Forbes,?The?Wall?Street?Journal,?and has three?TED talks. Stanford honored him as a Distinguished Alumni Scholar (2010) and he has presented?keynotes and workshops?at more than 300 campuses and conferences 46 states and 17 countries around the world.? In 2018, he was awarded the?Ernest L. Boyer Award?(for significant contributions to American higher education). He is a senior fellow for the American Association of Colleges and Universities.
