Why did you choose to become a hall director?
After gaining experience in various departments at my alma mater, I discovered that my passion for social work came to life when working with college students. This population faces exciting opportunities paired with unique challenges within a brief yet influential period. As a Hall Director, I am determined to accompany them on this journey, offering support and guidance at every turn. During this process, I will rely on my social work education, my incredible colleagues, and the knowledge that students are complex and deserving of dedicated investment.
Why did you choose to work at Res Life at UNH?
Having grown up in the mountains of Colorado and spent the rest of my life on the shore of Lake Michigan, New Hampshire seemed like the perfect place for these parts of myself to come together. Upon visiting, this was quickly made true and further cemented by the people I met. The community welcomed me with open arms, eager to fill me in on New England lore and share their love of Noah Kahan. Likewise, they were curious and eager to hear my experiences, creating a safe and healthy space for me to thrive. I plan to foster the same environment for the students I meet, moved to carry out the same kindness afforded to me.
What advice would you give to students?
I always advise students to take advantage of their time in college, prefacing that this looks different for each person. Someone might feel compelled to join every club. Another person may involve themselves heavily in one area, such as their community, research, academics, sport, or job. Regardless, anything pursued with passion leads to growth. It’s okay if the process does not feel perfect! When this happens, it’s important to extend grace to oneself and reach out for help if needed.
