Living in a community means that security is everyone's responsibility.
Students living on campus should always be mindful and careful with their keys, ID cards, and combinations. All residence hall and on-campus apartment exterior doors require UNH ID cards to access (only by those who live in that community). Bedrooms, suites, and apartments can be any combination of physical key, UNH ID card (swipe or tap), or numerical combination.
Locked Out: Loaner Keys/IDs and Let-Ins
Students who are locked out of their building or room have two options based on when the lock out occurs - during business hours or after hours/weekend.
Weekdays, 8:00am - 4:30pm
Students who are locked out during regular business hours should retrieve a loaner key/ID. There is no charge for using a loaner key/ID. Loaner keys/IDs should be returned before the end of business on that day - unless otherwise directed by staff.
- Students in the residence halls: Go to the UNH Housing office (10 Academic Way) to receive a loaner key/ID.
- Students in the on-campus apartments: Go to your complex's mailroom to receive a loaner key/ID.
Unable to Get Loaner Key/ID?
Students who are unable to get a loaner key/ID will require a "let-in" service - when staff come to you to let you into the room. Please wait by your room (or building entrance if locked out of building) for staff and provide your ID for verification. If your ID is in your room, you can show it once the door is unlocked.?Let-ins are charged per instance at a rate of $25.00 for the first let-in and $100.00 for each let-in after the first time.?Charges are placed directly on a student's financial account with the University.
- Students in the residence halls: Call UNH Housing at 603-862-2120 to request a let-in.
- Students in the on-campus apartments: Call your apartment complex's mailroom - Gables (603-862-2798) or Woodside (603-862-1779).

Lost Key / ID and Combination Changes
Lost Key
Students who have lost their key will need come to the UNH Housing office (10 Academic Way) as soon as possible. A lost key means that the lock has to be changed (re-cored). We will issue the student a temporary loaner key while the new lock and keys are ordered. A re-core results in a $65.00 charge to the student, which will be assessed directly to the student's financial account with the University.
When the lock has been changed and new keys are ready, all students impacted (the student who lost their key and any roommates using the same key/lock) will be notified. Each student impacted will be required to come to the UNH Housing office to retrieve the keys.
Lost UNH ID
Report lost UNH IDs to Campus Services as soon as possible.
Combination Changes
Students living residence halls with a numerical combination (combo), are strongly encouraged to not share their combo with anyone. To request a combination change, please come to the UNH Housing office (10 Academic Way). Combination changes for non-urgent reasons are charged a $25.00 change fee, which is assessed directly to the student's financial account. Combo changes due to urgent/emergency purposes are not charged.
