America East men's soccer championship

The home team made it count when UNH hosted its first America East men’s soccer championship game Nov. 11. 2018.

Not only did UNH men’s soccer earn its first America East title, it also set an America East championship record in the process. The second-seeded Wildcats scored a record five goals to beat the University of Maryland-Baltimore County 5-0, the culmination of a tournament in which keeper Lars Huxhol ’19G didn’t allow a single goal. The victory was the program’s first conference title in 31 seasons and five championship game appearances.

Though the season ended with a NCAA tournament first-round loss to Colgate University, it was a fitting follow-up to a 2017 campaign that saw the underdog ’Cats advance to the NCAA Round of 16 on an at-large bid. There’s every indication the team has more magic in store for the 2019 season, when play will move from Wildcat Stadium to the new soccer and lacrosse field currently under construction on Lewis Field. Through the America East title game, the team was perfect at home all season with a record of 10-0-0.
