Two horrific and senseless mass shootings motivated by hate and fear occurred over the weekend. One took place in a church in Laguna Woods, California. The other occurred in a supermarket in Buffalo, New York.
Acts based on hatred and fear that take the lives of innocent people who are targeted simply because of their race, ethnicity, culture or any other identity should neither be condoned nor tolerated. Our heart goes out to the families and friends of those who lost their lives, and we stand in solidarity with impacted communities.
We understand the effect these hate crimes have had on members of the UNH community. The Office of Community, Equity?and Diversity, with support from Student Life and NH Listens, will be hosting an online processing space. The processing space will take place Thursday, May 19, from noon-1 p.m. with facilitated breakout rooms for anyone who would like to gather in solidarity, engage in conversation and receive support as they process these most recent hate crimes. Interested parties can join the processing space.??
Regardless of our race, ethnicity, creed or color we all have a responsibility to create a safer, more just society free from racism and its related ills.
