Commencement Address 2022

Greetings, graduates, families and friends.

Thank you, Dean Carpenter, for your gracious introduction. I am Jim Dean, president of UNH. It my great privilege to join you in celebrating the Class of 2022. Congratulations, graduates! I am so proud of you.

A degree from the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law signifies achievement at an institution that is highly regarded, both nationally and internationally, for scholarship and innovation in legal education.

In fact, this is the first class that includes graduates from our hybrid JD program. Congratulations to those of you who took this exciting and novel path.

Your graduating class is also remarkable because you pursued academic excellence during a pandemic. Yet, you persevered, even as your class also supported your families, loved ones and each other through every challenge.

In your time at UNH, you adapted to a rapidly changing world, along with new technologies and ways of working. You embraced opportunities to gain valuable experience and to serve a greater good. You continued to build and strengthen your networks with classmates and faculty mentors. And you bring tremendous pride to our entire UNH community today.

I would like to recognize everyone – our students, our dedicated faculty members and staff, and your families – for giving us so much to celebrate. Thank you, everyone.

The Class of 2022 is prepared to succeed in a dynamic world that will bring unimaginable new challenges and opportunities. The world is eager for your talent. We are so excited for you, and we look forward to welcoming you back as engaged alumni.

Congratulations, graduates! And thank you, everyone!

I now invite Dean Megan Carpenter to tell you about the traditional “Advice from the Faculty” message. Thank you.
