Dear Colleagues —

I am pleased to share that we will welcome Jay Calhoun as our interim chief financial officer, effective May 18. Jay most recently served as CFO and treasurer at Brown University where he was responsible for financial planning and analysis, accounts payable and procurement. While at Brown he managed a reorganization and consolidation of two separate budget units, reconstructed the financial analysis and reporting for budget activities and managed a progressive reduction in the university’s endowment draw.

Prior to joining Brown, Calhoun served as treasurer at Carnegie Mellon University where he was responsible for bank relations, cash and liquidity management, short-term investment, borrowing and investment support for retirement plans. He also worked in a number of roles at the New York Life Insurance Company and New York Life International as well as CFO for Wheel Ring, Inc., the manufacturer of the first wheelchair designed exclusively for children.

Jay brings a wealth of experience to this role and will be a great partner as the university tackles budget challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic and moves forward with its Huron work. ?He has a bachelor’s in politics from Princeton University and a master’s in business policy from Columbia University. Please join me in welcoming Jay to the UNH community.

I would be remiss if I did not take a moment to recognize and thank Cathy Provencher for serving as our interim CFO the last eight months including during what has arguably been one of the most, if not the most, challenging periods in the history of our institution. Not only did she keep an even hand on our overall financial picture, but she did it while ensuring our students received refunds for room, board and some fees as well as working quickly to disburse more than $5 million in emergency grants. Please join me in thanking her for her commitment to UNH while also serving as CFO of the entire university system.?

Best regards,

?
