Growing and installing Celia Thaxter's island garden

Wednesday, July 13, 2016

Celia Thaxter's garden on Appledore Island has long been a favorite place?for visitors,?who can?step back in time and experience a piece of 19th century history. Each spring, the garden comes to life?through the efforts of UNH plant scientists, dedicated master gardeners and community experts. This past January,?UNH student and Shoals Marine Laboratory intern?Amelia Curtis?began sowing?the seeds?for the garden?in the UNH Macfarlane Greenhouse. By the beginning of June, the plants were ready for their trip from Durham to the?Appledore.?
