Research Title:?Quantifying the Relationship Between Passive Muscle Properties and Maximal Muscle Strength & Power?

Abstract:
Stretching decreases muscle-tendon unit (MTU) stiffness and work absorption, which may negatively affect muscle strength and power. The purpose of this research is to test whether static and ballistic stretching techniques, alter MTU passive-elastic properties, and impair muscle strength and power. Thirty human subject’s work absorption, muscle strength, and power will be measured on an isokinetic dynameter following ballistic or static stretching. Understanding the relationship between passive MTU properties and strength and power will help create a platform for practical stretching recommendations to optimize muscle performance in both clinical and athletic populations.
